Shape the founding seat before you hire a lab

A written mandate for hire one: ship the production path, or close named decisions. Those are different seats.

A practical example

What this looks like in the business

A founder and the board write a one-page mandate for hire one: ship the production path, own evals, sit in the first ten customer installs. They refuse a research scientist until there is a research question the customer will pay to answer. If the stall is commercial (qualified briefs with no owner), the first seat is an applied lead who can take a decision conversation the same week, not another modeler. Mixing those seats burns six to twelve months of cash.

What you leave with. A role shape, a 90-day production bar, and what not to hire yet.

Not this. A Head of AI job post that lists papers, or a VP Sales hired to figure out the motion. Calendar for this class of work is measured in weeks, not hours.
